Training of trainers in Rijeka

For one week in Rijeka (Croatia) 35 educators from 6 countries (Croatia, Cyprus, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and Turkey) participated in the “Training of trainers” of the project Generation 0101, an European project with a goal to focus on ICT education for unemployed youth.

All partners have contributed to the development of 7 training modules: e-journalism, mobile app development, web design, community radio, easy coding, video, online collaboration tools. Trainers have chosen the courses that they were interested the most. Participants were divided into small learning groups and attended different courses.

Groups have participated in different involving activities. For example, people from the video group have been taking videos and photos every day and have accumulated at least 40 GB of video material for it to be used later in making the video about the training week. Other groups created small computer games, mobile apps, learnt how to collaborate in cyberspace and use many other features and programs for digital activities and work.

The evenings were productive and purposeful and rich of activities. As usual for this kind of events participants explored the city and everything it has to offer: venues, cuisine, historical places, sightseeing, socializing with the locals and each other etc. Organizers have prepared an evening event where groups of participants were given a map with different objects to visit around the old city and perform various tasks or ask local passers-by for help to answer questions about local objects. Digital technologies could be used for that as well, but where is the fun in that? There was one task that was impossible to be done without the help of local citizens. Project participants had to gather as much unfamiliar people in one place and take the picture with them. The more people you gathered, the more points you received. It showed them that technology has many advantages and can make your life easier, but sometimes human interaction is the only way to reach the goal.

At the moment all training modules are being reviewed and final tweaks are being made to prepare them for localisation. After the localisation is complete all project partners will start to invite youngsters to learn valuable ICT skills and gain important knowledge.

After the trainings are over the best project participants will have an opportunity to travel abroad and participate in international hackatons where they will work together with participants from all 6 countries to create IT solutions for different organisations and thus show what they have learnt.
